Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture Program

The Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture program facilitates continued development and adoption of management practices that make agricultural production and processing more environmentally sustainable.

Environmental Stream Grant

The Environmental Stream grant provided by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development aims to improve the environmental sustainability of agricultural production and processing. The County's Environmental and Extension program develops and recommends new management practices to help landowners better understand and manage land and water resources. This program actively supports watershed management groups, student education, riparian conservation, the development of Environmental Farm Plans, and provides support for Growing Forward applications.

Environmental Education Programs for Students

The Rural Extension Officer works with other agencies to bring classroom learning outdoors. The following initiatives help students learn about agriculture and conservation through hands-on techniques.

Alberta Envirothon

Aimed at students in Grades 9-12, the Envirothon is an annual environmentally-themed competition held throughout North America. This academic-level competition tests students on forestry, soils, land use, aquatic ecology, agriculture and wildlife. A current environmental issue, which changes each year, is also addressed.

Alberta Envirothon helps high school students develop the knowledge, skills and experience they need to actively participate as stewards of natural resources. To learn more, visit https://sites.google.com/site/envirothonab/home
