The Firebox has arrived! As of May 2013, County residents are able to burn their Mayweed, noxious and prohibited noxious weeds and other weeds at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management. The Firebox provides County ratepayers with an appropriate and free disposal method for any weeds they may pick. It will also greatly assist in the proper disposal of the high volumes of noxious weeds picked by the County's Agriculture staff each year.
It is recommended that when hand-picking noxious or prohibited noxious weeds you bag and burn them. Picking is still the most effective method for dealing with small infestations of Mayweed.
The Firebox is a large unit that will be able to handle the destruction of these weeds, while the air curtain in place over the top will ensure that smoke and particulates are minimized. This project is a joint effort between the County's Agriculture and Public Works Departments.
