Snowshoe FUNdamentals for Families

Have fun with your family while learning a new winter activity! 

The County of Grande Prairie Parks & Recreation department is offering residents the opportunity to participate in the Snowshoe FUNdamentals for Families Program. 

Saturday, January 27th, 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Kleskun Hill Park (located 20 km northeast of Grande Prairie on Hwy 43, turn north on Range Road 41 for 4 km. Follow the signs to the campground).

Cost: $5 per person
Registration is closed.

Participants will learn the basics about snowshoeing regarding equipment, technique and how to recognize potential hazards. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice at their own pace while exploring the beautiful Kleskun Hills Natural Area. 

Details:

  • Cost is $5 per person.   
  • Children must be at least six years old. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Participants must bring their own equipment.
  • Please dress for the weather! Warm clothes and boots are required.
  • Program will accept maximum of 15 participants. Minimum of 5 participants.
  • Program is subject to cancellation due to poor conditions (if weather is below -20 degrees with windchill or there is not enough snow).

Snowshoe FUNdamentals for 16 and up

Saskatoon Mountain Day Use Area (Travel 30 km northwest of Wembley on Hwy 43, to Range Road 92, then 5 km north)
Cost: $5 per person

Participants will learn the basics about snowshoeing regarding equipment, technique and how to recognize potential hazards while taking in the spectacular panoramic views of the south and west portions of the County.

Details: 

  • Participants must bring their own equipment.
  • Please dress for the weather! Warm clothes and boots are required.
  • Program will accept maximum of 12 participants. Minimum of 5 participants.
  • Participants must be 16 years or older.
  • Program is subject to cancellation due to poor conditions (if weather is below -20 degrees with windchill or there is not enough snow).

 

Cancellations and Refunds:

The program is subject to cancellation due to poor conditions (if weather is below -20 degrees with windchill or not enough snow), or low registration. A full refund will be issued to all registrants if a program is cancelled. 

Registrants who decide they no longer wish to participate in the program must cancel their registration at least seven hours in advance of the program in order to receive a refund.
