The Public Works Department maintains and builds roads, bridges, hamlets, subdivisions, facilities and utilities within the County of Grande Prairie.
The 60 full-time employees and 15 seasonal employees ensure the highest level of service is provided in a timely manner - day or night - to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
As part of its workforce, the department has 14 full-time grader operators, each of whom maintains approximately 230 kilometres of roadways. Two additional graders are added to the fleet each year to assist with dust control and road maintenance throughout the County.

The Public Works Emergency Telephone Line is available to residents who encounter emergencies that restrict their access to necessities. After business hours run from 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday, weekends, and holidays.
A public works emergency is constituted as a situation where personal and property safety is largely at risk or your ability to access necessities such as groceries, medical appointments, etc., are impeded or restricted due to damaged, inaccessible roads and infrastructure. Residents with any non-emergency public works related questions and concerns are strongly encouraged to contact Public Works at 780-532-9722 during the regular business hours of Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. excluding holidays.
