Schedule:      Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with overtime, as required

Under the direction of the Communications Manager, this position is responsible for the coordination and execution of a variety of communications functions with a focus on storytelling and strategic planning.  

Primary duties will include:

  • Assisting in developing internal and external strategic communication plans and materials to support operational initiatives, municipal programs, and issues management;
  • Day-to-day operational requirements include preparing communication materials and responding to issues while working with County departments to ensure accuracy and consistency of department, project and corporate messaging;
  • Writing, editing, coordinating, and managing communications associated with the development of communications plans, newsletters, news releases, advertisements, fact sheets, briefing notes, special events, and other communications vehicles;
  • Producing and posting web and social media content;
  • Proactively and reactively managing media relations;
  • Provide administrative support to the Manager.

The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic team player with great attention to detail. You will also possess:

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism;
  • Relevant experience in corporate communications, preferably in the public sector;
  • Membership with International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) an asset;
  • Passionate about writing engaging stories with extensive knowledge of communication practices and principles;
  • Advanced computer skills, organizational and written communication skills and the ability to learn and adapt to changing situations;
  • Experience in print and digital design;
  • Self-starter who has the ability to work independently in a time-efficient manner;
  • Possession of a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
