Closing Date:   November 20, 2017 @ 8:30 a.m. 
Wage Range:   $26.93 - $32.12 per hour
Schedule:         44 hours/week; standard schedule is 8 hours/day in winter, 12 – 14 hours/day in summer with some weekend work, as required.
Position Type: Full-time, non-management

The Public Works department is looking for a permanent, full-time versatile Heavy Equipment Operator with the capability to operate a snowplow, with a front plow & wing, and a tandem gravel truck and pup. The successful candidate may be called upon to operate additional pieces of heavy equipment such as; hoes, loaders, challengers, Cats, graders and trucks, and may also be called on to undertake general labour duties as needed. This position typically works 12 - 14 hour days, 6 - 7 days per week during the summer construction season; in addition to travelling to the site(s), as required. On-call work is required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum class 1 Driver’s License with an acceptable driver’s abstract;
  • Willingness to work up to 14 hours per day; as required;
  • Knowledge of rural addressing and the County map grid system;
  • Ability to complete paperwork;
  • Physically capable of undertaking general labour duties; such as, steaming, etc.;
  • Ability to undertake maintenance and repairs, as required;
  • Ability to deal with members of the public in a professional manner;
  • Must be willing to undertaking training in order to meet operational requirements;
  • Ability to complete paperwork and maintain records management practices pursuant to the County’s Records Management Policy;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality pursuant to the County’s policy and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

The successful applicant will be a team player with good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.  You will be a self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and be able to contribute positively to the team environment.
