Landfill & Recycling Information

ACCEPTED WASTES:

  • Household Garbage
  • Furniture
  • Tires (all sizes)
  • Clean Uncontaminated Fill Material (sand, dirt, etc.)
  • Wood
  • Heavy Metals
  • Car Bodies ($300 fee at both the Clairmont Landfill and the Regional Landfill; Teepee Creek and Demmitt Transfer Stations do not accept vehicle bodies)
  • Household Appliances (fridges and freezers must have a valid Freeon removal tag or a $20 fee will be charged per appliance)
  • Pesticide and Herbicide containers (not accepted at Demmitt Transfer Station; all containers must be empty and triple rinsed)

County Residents will not be charged to dump any of the above waste (with the exception of Freeon units, vehicle hulks, and unsecured loads).  Effective September 1, 2010 all County residents will need a Landfill Access Tag to use the facility free of charge.  Commercial and non-county residents will be charged at $89/tonne based on the weight of the load that they are dumping along with the type of material that they are dumping. Commercial and non county residential loads composed strictly of clean wood waste, loads of tires, and loads composed strictly of metal wastes will be charged $44.50/tonne with a minimum charge of $10.00.  TO AVOID LITTERING PLEASE COVER YOUR LOADS DURING TRANSPORTATION.

PROHIBITED WASTES:

  • Tires or Vehicle Hulks from Commercial Companies
  • Contaminated Soil
  • Liquid Wastes (i.e. paint, used oil, sump and septic tank fluids, etc.)
  • Weed Seeds or Treated Grain
  • Animal Carcasses
  • Pressure Vessels (i.e. propane tanks)
  • Coated Pipe (i.e. yellow jacket pipe)

WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED AT THE LANDFILLS?

  • Tires, batteries, heavy metals, wire, televisions, fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, small appliances such as computer monitors and components, toasters, VCRs, and fluorescent light bulbs (at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management) 

LOCATIONS OF THE RECYCLING BINS

  • Beaverlodge Bigway Foods, Beaverlodge Industrial Park (West of town shop), Bezanson School, Clairmont (opposite the water treatment plant), Elmworth Store, LaGlace (south of the arena), Teepee Creek Fire Hall, Valhalla (Intersection 723 & Hwy 59), Wembley (9807-100 STREET), Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management, and The Regional Landfill.

WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED IN THE BINS? 

  • Newsprint: newspapers, magazines, catalogues, and glossy flyers (please remove bags or ties)
  • Office Paper: all other paper products, including envelopes, office paper, junk mail, phone books, brochures, and paper labels (gift wrap, construction paper, carbon paper, and post-it notes CANNOT be recycled)
  • Glass: all types and colors of glass jars and bottles (please remove labels and rinse)
  • Metal: tin, aluminum, and steel food and beverage containers, including tin cans, foil trays, and pie plates, foil wrap, and jar lids (please rinse and remove labels)
  • Plastics: any plastic with the triangular recycling symbol encircling the numbers 1, 2, or 4 including plastic grocery bags, bread and fruit bags, milk jugs, and shampoo bottles.
  • Cardboard and Boxboard: clean, dry and flattened

PLEASE SORT THE ITEMS ABOVE BEFORE TAKING THEM TO THE RECYCLE CENTERS. THANK YOU.
