Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP)
The Canadian Agricultural Partnership (CAP) is federal-provincial-territortial initiative aimed at generating economic growth in the agricultural sector and delivering the greatest benefits for farmers, food processors and Canadian families. CAP is the successor of the 2013-2018 Growing Forward 2 partnership.
In Alberta, programs for industry being developed under CAP will help to move industry forward in five areas:
- Environmental Sustainability and Climate Change
- Products, Market Growth and Diversification
- Science and Research
- Risk Management
- Public Trust
With technical assistance from the County's Rural Extension Officer, producers develop work plans that identify actions they can take to address their greatest environmental risks and that when completed, will reduce or minimize their impact on the environment. These plans also highlight what the producers are doing well on their farms. Producers can then apply for funding for projects that will help them achieve the environmental goals they've identified.
The County's Rural Extension Officer is designated by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development to provide technical support and assistance to producers submitting program applications.
