Curbside Recycling & Bin Guidelines

Acceptable Items for Curbside Recycling Collection

The items below are a few examples of the items accepted in blue bags for curbside pickup:

Plastics 1 to 7 (must be clean and dry. Items must be marked with symbols) - Household bottles and containers such as vinegar, shampoo, hair care, fabric softener, dish soap , laundry detergent, windshield washer bottles; ice cream pails; beverage containers, milk cartons, and juice boxes. Plastic bags will not be accepted.

Mixed Paper - Newspaper, magazines, phone books, catalogues, flyers, inserts, writing and computer paper, paperback books (hard cover books need covers removed), gift wrap (non-metallic), greeting cards, envelopes, shredded paper.

Cardboard/Boxboard - Cereal boxes, shoe boxes, cracker boxes, cookie boxes (remove liners), tissue, toilet paper and paper towel cores, brown paper bags, paper egg cartons, and cardboard boxes (flattened). All cardboard and boxboard may be placed in your blue bag however, larger pieces can also be flattened and folded to a maximum of 2ft x 3ft (60cm x 90cm) and placed under the blue bags at the curb.

Tin - (clean, trap lids inside cans)- Food, soup and beverage cans; tinfoil wrap; and trays (pie plates).

Acceptable Items for Recycling Bins

The 13 recycling depots in the County are used to recycle materials such as:

Paper - Newspaper, magazines, catalogues, glossy flyers, bond paper, letter and copy paper, envelopes, coloured paper, phone books and brochures.
Preparation tips: Remove bags or ties. Place in the appropriate bin.

Tin and Plastics - Tin; beverages and food containers; jar lids; foil trays and wrap; containers types 1, 2, 4 and 5 (printed on the bottom); and milk cartons.
Preparation tips: Rinse and dry, and remove labels. Place in appropriate bin.

Glass - All colours of glass; and food and beverage containers.
Preparation tips: Rinse and dry, and remove labels. Place in appropriate bin.

Cardboard/Boxboard - All corrugated and non-corrugated paperboard, such as cereal boxes, tissue roll cores, egg cartons, packing boxes and brown paper bags.
Preparation tips: Flatten and place in appropriate bin.

Residents are reminded to directly place their recycled material into the appropriate bins and not leave anything on the ground at the depot. Leaving any material on the ground at the depot is considered littering.
