Current County residents or those with permanent (parental) residence in the County, who are pursuing or enrolled in post-secondary studies in the fields of business, commerce, or public office administration are encouraged to apply for the Ron Pfau Memorial Scholarship.

The County offers the $500 scholarship in memory of longtime County Administrator Ron Pfau.

Criteria

Applicant must be:

  • Presently residing in the County of Grande Prairie or have previously resided and still have parents/guardians residing in the County of Grande Prairie
  • A Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant; and
  • Entering or enrolled in an Alberta post-secondary education institution in the fields of business, commerce, or public office administration.

Applicant must provide:

  • Copy of letter of acceptance or confirmation of enrolment in a business, commerce, or public office administration program from an Alberta post-secondary education institution;
  • At least one letter of support from community members (i.e. Principal, pastor, 4-H leader, teacher, professor, executive director or chairperson of volunteer organization, etc.);
  • Proof of Academic record – High school transcripts that include marks for diploma exams when requesting transcripts from Alberta Education, if you are newly entering into the above programs. Students may request that transcripts be sent directly to fcss@countygp.ab.ca, who administers this award; and,
  • A letter or brief essay indicating career plans and current achievements. This part of the application allows the applicant to explain why he or she should be chosen to receive the scholarship.

Selection

Although academic achievements are important, the selection will not be based solely on academic record. The selection committee will also consider community involvement, such as, involvement in clubs, athletic, or cultural activities, volunteerism, personal projects, and other achievements.

Candidates can apply over multiple years, however, can only be awarded the scholarship one time.
