Agricultural Service Board Overview

Agricultural Services administers the County of Grande Prairie's Agricultural Service Board (ASB), which advises the County of Grande Prairie's Council and the Alberta Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation. The County's ASB is comprised of the whole of County Council (9 members) and up to three members-at-large representing the County of Grande Prairie's agricultural producers. Agricultural Service Boards operate under the Agricultural Service Board Act. Section 2 of the Act assigns duties to ASBs as follows:

  • Act as an advisory body and assist the council and the Minister in matters of mutual concern.
  • Advise on and help organize and direct weed and pest control and soil and water conservation programs.
  • Assist in the control of animal disease under the Animal Health Act.
  • Promote, enhance, and protect viable and sustainable agriculture to improve the economic viability of agricultural producers.
  • Promote and develop agricultural policies to meet the municipality’s needs.

The Agricultural Service Board meets at minimum four (4) times per year at the County of Grande Prairie's Administration Building in Council Chambers to discuss local agricultural concerns and advise Council on agricultural matters and issues impacting producers. Meetings are open to the public and live-streamed; you can watch the meetings and access the minutes here. If you have a matter you wish to present to the ASB, please contact our Agricultural Services department for assistance at 780-532-9727.
