Community Safety Overview
In 2024, the County of Grande Prairie took a significant step toward enhancing community safety with the introduction of the Community Safety Coordinator role, approved in the spring budget. This position, housed within the Regional Enforcement Services department, aligns with Council’s strategic priority of Community Wellness and Safety.
The Community Safety Coordinator role will play a pivotal role in fostering community wellness by collaborating with residents, businesses, and local organizations to develop and implement low-cost or no-cost crime prevention initiatives. A key focus will be on tackling rural crime, a priority at both the municipal and provincial levels, by strengthening partnerships among County Peace Officers, the RCMP, and various community groups.
Through initiatives like town halls, we aim to engage residents in meaningful discussions about safety, promote awareness, and reinforce the shared responsibility for community well-being. Together, we can build a safer, more connected community for all.
More to come.
