Who are Paid Responders? |
Our paid responders are regular people that wish to help their communities. They come from all walks of life and want to make a difference. Our paid responders provide their time to train and respond to incidents and work beside our career and volunteer firefighters from other stations. They are trained, dedicated and committed to helping people in their time of need. Paid responders are compensated by the County to train and respond to incidents; the training provided is internationally recognized and transferable. |
What do Paid Responders do? |
Paid responders are trained to respond to emergency incidents of all kinds. They respond to fires, rescues, medical, hazardous materials, and many other types of calls. Paid responders train to achieve required skills. They maintain and clean equipment and apparatus and work with our partners to mitigate emergency incidents. They also support their respective communities through public education and support of community activities. Paid responders will be able to complete training in diverse competencies such as:

How to apply
If you’re interested in applying to be a paid responder, we appreciate your interest. We accept applications year-round. To apply to be a paid responder:
- Complete a paid responder firefighter application
- Submit your completed application or in person to the Station Captain
- If you have questions, send an email to the County Regional Fire Service or call 780-933-1792.

What you need to apply
If you’re interested in becoming a paid responder, you're required to:
- Live no more than 15 minutes from the fire station
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have a current Alberta Driver’s Licence
- Demonstrate a safe driving record with a Drivers Abstract
- Have a Grade 12 education
- Have a RCMP Criminal Record Check
- Have a doctors letter confirming you’re medically fit to perform firefighting duties

What we expect
As a paid responder, we will expect:
- Positive, team-oriented attitude
- Aptitude for physically demanding but rewarding work
- Additional 2.5 hour training sessions per week
- Some weekend training is involved
