Clairmont Centre Access Program Update – The Committee accepted for information a report from Administration regarding the new Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management Access Program and Waste Card, launched on November 1, 2022. The Access Program allows every County household to dispose of up to 1,000 kilograms of waste for free at the Clairmont Centre each year. The program has received primarily positive feedback to date. Administration noted that they encourage households who haven’t obtained the new Waste Card yet to speed up the application process by applying online at www.countygp.ab.ca/wastecard before their next visit to the Centre.

During 2023 Final Budget deliberations, Council approved $51,000 in capital funding for road and fencing improvements at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management to assist with resident access around the facility with the new program.

Recreational Use of Stormwater Ponds During Winter 2022/2023 – Administration provided the Committee with an update on the recreational use of stormwater ponds in the County during the 2022/2023 winter season. The Committee recommended to Council that Administration bring back an updated policy on the recreational use of stormwater ponds to address identified risks and reflect lessons learned during the recent season.

Community Group Support Update – Administration provided the Committee with an update on the success to date of the Community Group Support Coordinator position. This position is new to the County and was approved by Council during Final Budget in 2022 with the purpose of better supporting community volunteer groups.

The Committee recommended to Council that Administration schedule an exploratory session for Council, facilitated by the Community Group Support Coordinator, to determine desired outcomes in regard to a request made for analysis of community facilities during the January 20, 2022 Committee of the Whole Meeting.

County of Grande Prairie Library Board Update – The Committee accepted as information a report from Administration regarding operational highlights of the Library Board in 2022. These highlights included library statistics, an agreement between the County Library Board and the Peace Library System to provide outreach library services to Horse Lake First Nation through the Hythe Community Library, a formal agreement with the La Glace Community Library Society for the leased space located in the Verona Caltrell Memorial Centre and other successes.

Tri-municipal Event at Upcoming Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference – The Committee accepted for information an update from Administration regarding the tri-municipal invitational event being planned in partnership with the City of Grande Prairie and Municipal District of Greenview to promote the region. The event will take place on May 27, 2023, during the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Toronto, Ontario.

First Quarter Economic Development Report – The Committee accepted as information a report from Administration outlining the Economic Development activities undertaken by the County in the first quarter of 2023 and the initiatives planned for the remainder of the calendar year.

Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum Update – Linden Roberts, Executive Director of the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum, provided the Committee with an annual operational update that included highlights of current and future programming, federal and provincial grant funding, future exhibitions and summer activities, facility improvements and more.

Grande Spirit Foundation Update – Representatives from the Grande Spirit Foundation presented information to the Committee that outlined the Foundation’s operations and the services it provides within the County of Grande Prairie and around the region.

Committee of the Whole Task Lists – The Committee reviewed the Council and Committee of the Whole Meeting task lists up to and including April 17, 2023.

Review of Upcoming Agenda Items – The Committee reviewed topics scheduled for upcoming Committee of the Whole meetings.
