Specialized Fire Equipment Replacements Approved — Council directed Administration to proceed with purchasing replacement specialized fire equipment at a cost of use $222,520.63, as identified through an internal equipment audit. Some of the existing equipment is nearing its end of life/expiration dates and has been in use for over 13 years since the County Regional Fire Service was formed. Assorted items needing to be replaced include multiple Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) cylinders, hoses and nozzles, pumps, and fittings.

Revised Letter of Commitment for Clairmont Housing Project Proposal — Council received a proposal from the Grande Spirit Foundation for a new apartment-style affordable and market rental housing initiative within the Hamlet of Clairmont and issued a revised letter of commitment to the Foundation for the transfer of lands located adjacent to 107A Avenue and Township Road 725. The Foundation will use the letter to pursue funding.

La Glace and District Agricultural Society Funding Request Approved — Council approved the funding request of $77,738 from the La Glace and District Agricultural Society for an ice plant rental for three months of the winter 2025-2026 season. Council deferred the Society’s request for $50,000 in increased annual operating funding for a one-year term to final budget deliberations in April and will re-evaluate the Association’s financial position before operating funding is confirmed for 2026. At their March 2025 board meeting, the Society decided to purchase a new ice plant for the new Tamarack Recreation Centre, to be installed and ready for ice production by mid-December.

KidSport Grande Prairie and Area Funding Request Approved — Council approved the $6,000 funding request from KidSport Grande Prairie and Area, to support sport programs registration fees for low-income children up to 18 years of age. Council directed Administration to release the funds as allocated in the 2024 Community Assistance budget.

Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee Restructure — Council accepted the changes to the Grande Prairie Regional Recreation Committee’s (GPRRC) structure as it transitions to a maintenance format. At final budget in April, the County will reallocate the $27,000 originally awarded to the 2025 GPRRC operating budget.

Ken Sargent House Funding Request — Council directed the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation to apply to the 2026 County Capital Grant Program for funding to support the Ken Sargent House project, a 21-unit housing facility for patients and families receiving treatment in Grande Prairie.

County Connector Bus Donated to Dinosaur Museum — Council directed Administration to donate the 2018, 30-foot passenger former County Connector bus to the Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum. The bus was previously used for the County Connector Rural Transportation pilot project, which was discontinued in August 2020.

Hythe Affordable Housing Tax Exemption — Council directed Administration to take no action and maintain the existing exemption from municipal tax and Grande Spirit Foundation tax for two Hythe & District Pioneer Homes Advisory Committee properties within the Hamlet of Hythe, as long as the properties retain the Affordable Housing Designation with the province.

2025 Schedule of Fees, Rates, and Charges Bylaw — Council gave final reading to Bylaw #3249 – 2025 Schedule of Fees, Rates, and Changes as presented. Administration’s changes to Bylaw #3249, involved deleting fees no longer in effect, clarifying existing fees, proposed fee increases, and new proposed fees.

2026 Asset Retirement Funding Obligations — Council directed Administration to bring back funding options for asset retirement obligations (ARO) during the 2026 interim budget deliberations. Assets covered by the ARO include facilities, landfills, and gravel pits.

Sponsorship Requests — Council approved the following sponsorship requests:

  • $5,000 annually for a term of three years to the 3D Children’s Society for the annual tournament fundraiser on May 9, 2025, at Hansen Lincoln Field and the Community Knowledge Campus parking lot.
  • $5,000 to the Peace Wapiti Academy for the 2025 Alberta Schools Athletic Association (ASAA) 3A Boys Provincial Volleyball Championships on November 25-30, 2025.
  • $3,000 to the Grande Prairie Women’s Residence Association operating as Odyssey House for the GrandeCon event on September 12-14, 2025, at the Bonnett’s Energy Centre.

Public Hearing — Council gave first reading to Bylaw #3240 – Road Closure of Portion of Undeveloped Road, Plan 0825282 to close a portion of undeveloped road located within a lot of land found approximately 2.23 miles northeast from the Hamlet of Demmitt, adjacent to Range Road 130 and Township Road 750, and directed Administration to forward the Bylaw to the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors for approval.

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on April 25, 2025. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on April 14, 2025. Final Budget Council Meetings will be held on April 15, 16, and 17, 2025.
