Public Members to be Included in Agricultural Service Board – Council approved an updated Bylaw for the Agricultural Service Board Bylaw, which introduces three additional positions to be filled by members of the public. Previously, the Board was made up of County Council and the Agricultural Fieldman. The positions will be advertised according to the Pubilc Appointments policy, with applications to be presented for approval at the October 2020 Organizational Meeting.

The Agricultural Service Board advises Council on agricultural matters that impact the County or its residents. 

La Glace Community Water System – Council accepted a report from Administration and a representative from Associated Engineering on the La Glace Community Water System for information. 

The County received an Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership (AMWWP) grant for $750,000, 75 per cent of the value to build the water treatment plant. Council directed Administration to confirm additional details and costs for the Community Water System project to be presented at a future Council Meeting.  

Landowner Request for Drainage Support – Council directed Administration to complete some preliminary work to mitigate erosion issues in an area around Township Road 710. Council directed that the area is added to the existing list of locations to address through a surface water management plan. 

Gravel Lock Application – Council approved the application of gravel lock to four gravel roads at the cost of $325,200. Gravel lock will be applied on:

  •      Range Road 102 from Township Road 724 to Township Road 721A
  •      Range Road 95 from Highway 43 to Township Road 721
  •      Range Road 85 from Township Road 720A to Township Road 722
  • Range Road 84 from Highway 43 to Township Road 715A

Fence along Valhalla Trail – Council approved $2,500 to install a fence along the County-built trail in the Hamlet of Valhalla.

Fees, Rates and Charges – Council approved an updated Fees, Rates and Charges Bylaw.

Flyover at Range Road 62 and Highway 43X – Council directed Administration to research an alternate design of a flyover at Range Road 62 and Highway 43X, with findings to be presented at a future Council Meeting. 

Public Hearings – Council held a public hearing for Bylaw 2680-20-017 to redesignate 10 acres of land located adjacent to Hillside Estates subdivision, at the intersection of Township Road 744 and Range Road 50 from a Country Residential (CR-4) District to a Limited Institutional and Recreation (L-IR) District to allow for the subdivision of one recreational lot. Council gave the bylaw third reading.

Council held a public hearing for Bylaw 2680-20-018 to redesignate 13.7 acres of land located south of the Hamlet of Bezanson, adjacent to Range Road 32 from an Agricultural (AG) District to a Country Residential (CR-5) District to allow for the subdivision of three residential lots. Council gave the bylaw third reading. 

Council held a public hearing for Bylaw 2680-20-019 to redesignate 15 acres of land located seven miles northeast of the Town of Sexsmith, one mile north of Highway 674, and adjacent to Range Road 44 from an Agricultural (AG) District to a Country Residential (CR-5) District to allow for the subdivision of one residential lot. Council gave the bylaw third reading.

Family and Community Support Services Lease – Council approved extending the FCSS office space lease for an additional three years at a rate of $20.60/sq ft, an increase of $180 per month. 

PREDA Membership – Council approved the Peace Region Economic Development Association’s (PREDA) updated membership fees at a rate of $0.75 per capita, $16,727 annually for the County of Grande Prairie.  

Greenview Clay Shoot Tournament – County Council will attend the MD of Greenview’s Clay Shoot Tournament on September 12.   

Staff Introductions – Council welcomed Sabina Mose as a post-secondary student who will be assisting the Legislative Services department until the end of November.   

Next Regular Council Meeting will take place on September 14, 2020. A Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on September 17, 2020.
