Northeast Clairmont Development Framework Approved Council gave third and final reading to the Northeast Clairmont Area Structure Plan (ASP). The ASP outlines the long-term future land use and development, including roads and other infrastructure, for 3,300 acres of land located north of Highway 43, east of Clairmont Lake, south of Township Road 730, and to the east boundary of Clairmont. Supporting the Mozart Mission – Council approved a donation of $25,000 to support the Mozart Mission, a group of individuals who have partnered with the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital Foundation to fundraise for a new piece of breast cancer screening equipment for a more effective and faster cancer treatment process for many patients. The funds will come from the Community Aggregate Reserve, which is funded through industry royalties and invested for the betterment of the community. 

Seeking Regional Accessible Transportation Grant Funding – Council directed Administration to apply for the 2022 Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) Intermunicipal Collaboration Grant for funds to hire a consultant to create and implement an operational and funding plan for a regional accessible transportation system.  

A regional accessible transportation system has been in discussion between the County of Grande Prairie, City of Grande Prairie, and towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley for several years and was temporarily paused with the introduction of the County Connector Regional Transit project. Each municipality passed a resolution to continue working on the initiative this spring.  

Subdivision Naming – Council approvea request from Beairsto & Associates Ltd. on behalf of Destiny Homes & Development Ltd to name the subdivision located within NE-29-71-7 W6, west of the Richmond Hill area, as “Grandview Heights”. 

Event Sponsorships – Council approved the following requests for sponsorship: 

  • $1,500 for the Mountain Plains Community Services Society of the North Golden Gala to be held on August 27 at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre in Grande Prairie. 
  • $500 to sponsor a hole at the Sexsmith & District Community Foundation for Play Community Golf Fundraiser at the Morningview Golf Course on August 19. 

Policies Presented for Approval – Council is undertaking a review of all County policies in 2022. The following policies were reviewed: 

  • Council approved Policy C31Budget Development as presented. 

  • Council rescinded Policy E7 – Access to Information. 

  • Council rescinded Policy L16 – Fit for Work.  

Extension Request – Council approved an extension request for File No. PLSUB20200479 until June 21, 2023, to allow the applicant time to complete the conditions of approval for the subdivision within SE-20-71-3-W6. 

Software Cancellation – Council directed Administration to end the agreement for Asset Maintenance software with Tyler Technologies. 

Appointment of Agricultural InspectorsCouncil appointed Amanda Ouellet, Agriculture Officer: Vegetation Management and Telsa Shaver, Administrative Assistant; Agriculture as Inspectors (for as long as they remain in the permanent position) and Herbicide Applicators Jared Matlock, Sharon Miller, Sean Purdy, Owen Campbell, Shae-Lyn Baehler, and Tracy Thomas as Inspectors for the 2022 season.  

IntroductionsCouncil welcomed new staff members to the County of Grande Prairie. The Regional Fire Service welcomed Matthew Smith as the new District Fire Chief. Planning and Development welcomed Reed Desroches as Planning Manager. Parks and Recreation welcomed Lindsey Juniper as Project and Administrative Coordinator and Miriam Mahnic as Community Group Support Coordinator. Financial Services welcomed Kristy Wagner as a Temporary Accounting Clerk, Cianna Forseille as a Temporary Tax Clerk and Anna Yelligadu as an Accounting Clerk.
