County Municipal Development Plan Update — The Committee received an update on progress to date on the Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and supported Administration proceeding with the next phase of public consultation. Proposed Regional Hydrogen Hub Development — The Committee recommended that Council direct Administration to bring the proposed development of a regional hydrogen hub partnership with the City of Grande Prairie and the Municipal District of Greenview to the Invest Northwest executive team for further review and recommendations.
Spring 2025 Wildfire Hazard Update — The Committee received a report from Regional County Fire Service comparing previous wildfire seasons with current projections. Extreme fire behaviour is possible if April/May isn't as wet as predicted. To prepare, the Fire Service is focusing on early detection, rapid response, and ensuring sufficient initial resources are in place.
County Midsize Facilities Review — The Committee received a report from Administration on the current status of all medium-size facilities in the County, as defined under Policy K14 – Operating Assistance Facilities. The Committee recommended to Council to revise Policy K14 to include a matrix with facility funding comparisons.
Draft Upper Smoky Sub-Regional Plan — The Committee requested Administration invite a project lead from Environment and Protected Areas to attend a future Committee of the Whole meeting to discuss the draft Upper Smoky Sub-Regional Plan and help address any questions from the Committee. An online public information session will be hosted by Environment and Protected Areas (EPA) on April 16 and May 6 followed by two in-person sessions on April 23 and April 30 in Grande Prairie. Potential Library Service at Peace Wapiti Academy — The Committee recommended to Council that no action be taken on a report from County Library Administration exploring the feasibility of establishing a public library branch as a part of the replacement Peace Wapiti Academy school project within Whispering Ridge subdivision.
The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on April 25, 2025. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on May 22, 2025.
