Brady Roberts, a second-year Business Administration student at Northwestern Polytechnic, has been awarded the 2023 County of Grande Prairie $500 Ron Pfau Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship was presented during today’s Committee of the Whole Meeting.

Roberts, a 20-year-oldresident of Grande Prairie and graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School, emerged as the ideal candidate for this scholarship. Brady's academic journey has been marked by dedication and outstanding performance both in the classroom and out in the community.

“Receiving this scholarship marks a significant milestone in my academic journey," says Roberts. "The financial support provided not only allows me to maintain focus on my studies but also acts as a catalyst for my education, serving as a motivational force and instilling a profound sense of pride. I am dedicated to maximizing the scholarship, propelling me toward a promising future in the realms of business and finance."

Beyond his academic pursuits, Brady has actively contributed to his community, working as a summer student at the Grande Spirit Foundation, a not-for-profit organization providing affordable housing to low-income families and seniors. Describing his experience, he shares, "It feels great to see that we are helping people in all the little ways we can. This community is everything to me and will always be home."

“Brady’s exceptional dedication to both his studies and community exemplifies the qualities we value in our scholarship recipients,” says Reeve Bob Marshall. “His ambition and grounded approach to education make him a standout candidate for this scholarship. Council takes pride in supporting Brady’s journey and we wish him continued success in his academic and professional endeavours.”

The County offers the $500 scholarship annually in memory of long-time County Administrator Ron Pfau to a current or former County resident who is pursuing post-secondary studies in Alberta and whose parents/guardians still reside in the municipality. Studies must be in the fields of business, commerce, or public office administration. Applicants are selected based on several criteria, including academics, community, athletic or cultural involvement, and other personal achievements.
