Local Government Fiscal Framework Letter to Municipal Affairs – The County will provide a letter to the Minister of Municipal Affairs requesting that Municipal Affairs establish a mechanism to allow eligible assets from Municipally Controlled Corporations (MCCs), such as Aquatera Utilities Ltd., to be incorporated into the Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF) formula calculations.
Regional Competitiveness Meeting - Council appointed Reeve Bob Marshall and Councillor Leanne Beaupre to participate in a meeting on regional economic competitiveness with the City of Grande Prairie and the Municipal District of Greenview.
Joint Council meeting with the Town of Beaverlodge will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Beaverlodge Recreation Centre to hold a Public Hearing regarding the Intermunicipal Development Plan Bylaw.
Electoral Boundary Review Work Plan and Engagement - Council received a presentation for information from ISL Engineering and Land Services regarding the Electoral Boundary Review and provided comments regarding the proposed survey. The survey will be available online from late May to June 2024.
Requests for Letters – Council approved the following:
- Aquatera Utilities Inc. letter of support for their Landfill Gas to Energy Project.
- Royal Canadian Legion congratulatory letter recognizing the 75th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Legion West Smoky Branch No. 244 to be included in their fundraiser cookbook.
- Maskwa Medical Center (Canada) Inc. letter of support for their Alternative Relationship Plan (ARP) application.
Sponsorship Requests – Council approved the following:
- $5,000 to the Grande Prairie Aboriginal Circle of Services for the Traditional Pow Wow event to be held on June 21 to 23, 2024 at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.
- $1,000 to the Grande Prairie Pride Society for the 2024 Pride event to be held May 31 to June 8, 2024 at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.
- $1,500 Swan City Rotary Club of Grande Prairie for the Friends of Rotary Community Golf Tournament to be held on August 26, 2024 at the Dunes Golf and Winter Club.
Bylaws Approved – Council gave third reading to Bylaw 3226 the 2024 Property Tax Bylaw. Tax notices will be mailed May 16, 2024.
Alberta Municipalities Membership – The County of Grande Prairie is currently an Associate Member of Alberta Municipalities and has been invited to become a Regular Member. Council directed Administration to request Alberta Municipalities provide a presentation to Council regarding benefits of changing the County’s level of membership.
Staff Introductions – Council welcomed Elizabeth Naeth as the Agriculture Administrative Assistant.
The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on May 13, 2024. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on April 25, 2024.
