2022 - 2026 Strategic Plan – Council approved the updated 2022 - 2026 Strategic Plan as amended. The Strategic Plan is reviewed annually by Council. Revised documents will be made available on the County website.
2024 Advocacy Priorities – Council approved the 2024 advocacy priorities for the County of Grande Prairie. During Council’s strategic planning session on February 14 -15, 2024, Administration presented a report card on the 2023 advocacy priorities and related activities. The priorities identified for 2024 fall under four main areas: economic development, transportation, health, and additional advocacy. Earth Day 2024 – Council proclaimed April 22, 2024 as Earth Day in the County of Grande Prairie. A joint event will be held with the City of Grande Prairie on Saturday, April 20 at the Montrose Cultural Centre in Teresa Sargent Hall. Read more about the family-friendly drop-in event that will run from noon to 4:00 p.m. and feature engaging learning opportunities, demonstrations from local businesses, and activities for residents of all ages.
Webster Intersection Lighting – Council directed Administration to take no action at this time on providing additional lighting of Range Road 53 east and west of the Highway 2 and Township Road 744 intersection, commonly referred to as the Webster intersection. Council will revisit the matter following the completion of the work to install lighting at the intersection by Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors.
Recreation and Culture Cost Sharing Committee (RCCSC) – Council approved the 2024 RCCSC Mediation Protocols with the City of Grande Prairie.
South Peace Regional Archives – Council approved $77,571 in operating funding for 2024 for the South Peace Regional Archives with a three per cent annual increase for 2025 and 2026.
Hythe and District Recreation Society – Council deferred the $20,000 recurring annual Operating Assistance Grant funding request from the Hythe & District Recreation Society to final budget.
Philip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum Elevator Repair – Council approved $16,621 for repairs to the elevator at the Phillip J. Currie Dinosaur Museum.
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Project Costs – Council approved the $400,000 funding request to complete implementation of the ERP project.
Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) Northern Zone 4 Registered Drainage System Ad-Hoc Committee – Council supported the proposed ad-hoc committee for registered drainage systems in RMA Northern Zone 4 being organized by Birch Hills County and directed Administration to designate a staff member to attend meetings as required.
Sponsorship Requests – Council approved the following:
- $2,500 to the Alberta Municipal Taxation Professional Association (AMTPA) in support of their 2024 conference.
- $1,000 to the Resource Centre for Suicide Prevention for the Mental Health Summit being held May 6-7, 2024, at the Northwestern Polytechnic Grande Prairie Campus.
- $5,000 sponsorship to the 3D Children’s Society for the 3D Annual Charity Hockey and Soccer Tournament.
Bylaws Approved – Council approved the following bylaws:
- Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2680-24-008, with amendments, to redesignate approximately 5.11 acres of land located approximately four miles northwest of the Town of Beaverlodge, adjacent to Township Road 725 and Range Road 103, from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District to accommodate the subdivision of one country residential lot.
- Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2680-24-009 to redesignate four hectares of land located near Township Road 725 and Range Road 35 from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District to accommodate the subdivision of one country residential lot.
- Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2680-24-010 to redesignate 10.43 hectares of land located at 93 Street and 39 Avenue in the County Industrial Park from the Rural Medium Industrial (RM-2) District to the Rural Heavy Industrial (RM-3) District so that the property owner can apply for a development permit for asphalt processing and storage.
- Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2680-24-011 to redesignate approximately 6.87 hectares located along secondary Highway 733 near Teepee Creek from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District to accommodate the subdivision of one country residential lot.
Staff Introductions – Council welcomed the following:
- Taofeek Oladipo as a Planner I with Planning and Development Services.
- Kristy Wagner as a Temporary Analysis and Reporting Accountant I with Business and Financial Planning Services.
- Troy Smith as the Project Manager for the Municipal Utilities department.
- Carla McQuaig, as the new Community Group Support Coordinator with Recreation and Culture.
- Mia Abbott as the new Temporary Systems Analyst with the Information Systems Department.
The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on April 8, 2024. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on March 28, 2024.
