Financial Reserves – Council approved amendments to Policy C27 Financial Reserves as presented. Updates to the policy are in response to changes to the Municipal Government Act. Council also directed Administration to send a letter to Municipal Affairs seeking clarification regarding the use of Community Aggregate Reserves for regional projects. 

County of Grande Prairie Health Care Worker Recruitment Program – Council directed Administration to explore developing an agreement for health care professional recruitment with the City of Grande Prairie and Municipal District of Greenview and bring it back to a future Council meeting for consideration. 

Workforce Development Partnership Update – Council was presented with a quarterly update on the Workforce Development Partnership. The initiative continues to bring the region together to support workforce development and is securing support from the Northern Regional Economic Development Program through Jobs Economy and Trade. 

Bylaws – Council approved Bylaw #2680-24-016 which amends the Land Use Bylaw to include Auction Mart (Auctioneering Services), Auction Room and Dugout as discretionary uses in the Highway Industrial (RM-4) District. 

 Sponsorship and Funding Requests– Council approved the following:   

  • $1,350 gift-in-kind funding to the County Brewers Baseball for outdoor rental fees at the Crosslink County Sportsplex ball diamonds for the upcoming 2024 season. 

  •  $1,500 sponsorship (Candy Sponsorship) for the 12th Annual Odyssey House Sunrise House Golf Tournament to be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. 

  • $1,500 sponsorship (Bronze Level) for the 35th Annual Northwestern Classic Golf Tournament to be held on June 7, 2024, at the Grande Prairie Golf and Country Club. 

  • $500 sponsorship for the Sexsmith & District Community Foundation Golf Tournament to be held on June 21, 2024, at the Morningview Golf Course.  

  • $2,000 sponsorship for the Lemonade Day Program hosted by Community Futures Grande Prairie and Region to be held on June 15, 2024. 

  • $1,500 sponsorship for the Grande Prairie Pirates Fastball Association U17 Girls Fastball Provincial Championships  
    July 12 to 14, 2024 at the South Bear Creek Ball Diamonds. 

Employee Achievements – Council congratulated Grant Houseman, Area Grader Operator, for his 45 years of service with the County of Grande Prairie. 

Staff Introductions – Council welcomed new and returning staff members to the County of Grande Prairie, including:  

 

  • Recreation and Culture – seasonal staff members Kaylyn Thomas, Brenna Smith, Teresa Schlenkrich, Noelle Peckham, Jack Fillier and Jonah Cincurak; 

  • Transportation and Utilities – seasonal staff members Max Moore, Olivia Rozinsky, Carston Clements, Darcy Nilsson, Amy Pavlis, Wyatt Soucy and Laryssa Atamanchuk; 

  • Financial and Business Planning Services–Hannah Thon as assessment summer student; and 

  • Planning and Development Services– Matthew Green as Facilities Specialist. 

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on June 11, 2024.The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on May 31, 2024.
