The County of Grande Prairie and City of Grande Prairie invite community members to review and share their thoughts on the draft Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP).

The IDP is a long-term, strategic plan required by the Municipal Government Act that outlines a vision for development and infrastructure near municipal boundaries

"The Intermunicipal Development Plan is a provincially mandated document that guides land use planning and infrastructure development near our municipal boundaries, ensuring that the City and County of Grande Prairie continue to collaborate and achieve our shared vision for growth and sustainability,” says City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton.

“The City and County of Grande Prairie have historically enjoyed a collaborative relationship and together, we have achieved much of what was set out in our initial Intermunicipal Development Plan,” says County of Grande Prairie Reeve, Bob Marshall. “The update will provide a coordinated framework that will serve us well into the future.”

Public Open Houses

Community members are invited to two public open houses to review the changes and updates to the IDP and provide comments and feedback. The sessions are drop-in format and open to everyone to attend.

The open houses take place:

  • July 18 | 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. | LSM Room, TARA Centre, Evergreen Park, 55051 Township Rd 710

  • July 19 | 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Teresa Sargent Hall, Montrose Cultural Centre, 9839 103 Ave, Grande Prairie

Feedback received at the open houses will be summarized in a ‘What We Are Hearing’ report and will inform future revisions to the IDP.

Additional open house opportunities for the project will be available in August, where community members will have the opportunity to view the final version of the IDP prior to public hearing.

Project Background

The initial IDP between the City & County was adopted in 2010 and has since undergone several amendments. The City and County initiated the process of updating their existing IDP in September 2019. Since then, the project teams from both municipalities have worked together to develop a new draft IDP.
