Back to SearchThe Trican Fieldhouse at the Crosslink County Sportsplex is brighter thanks to an energy efficiency grant.
The County of Grande Prairie offset the cost to replace the overhead lights in the fieldhouse with new energy saving lights through a Recreation Energy Conservation Program grant of $29,365, funded by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre (MCCAC).
“We’re hearing plenty of positive feedback from the public,” says Sportsplex General Manager, Kylee Haining. “Brighter, more energy-efficient lights that also reduce our energy consumption is a win-win for our patrons, the facility, the County, and the environment.”
The old lights were at the end of their life cycle, and many were failing. The updated technology provides higher quality light, reduces electricity consumption, and reduces carbon emissions from the facility. The full cost of replacing the lights was $53,340.
“The County is always looking for ways to be innovative and efficient with energy consumption within our buildings,” says Reeve Bob Marshall. “We appreciate the support of MCCAC to help us replace older technologies and lower our energy consumption.”
The lighting installation was completed in March 2023. The County expects to see ongoing cost savings due to reduced energy consumption over the lifespan of the new fixtures.
