County Celebrates Fire Prevention Week with Community Events

The County of Grande Prairie is celebrating the 2023 Fire Prevention Week (FPW) October 8-14, with various community events starting Tuesday, October 10 through till Sunday, October 15 planned at County fire stations and partner departments.

This year’s theme, “Cooking safety starts with YOU! Pay attention to fire prevention” focuses on educating everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe when cooking.  

County Regional Fire Service invites the public to join firefighters and County staff at a Fire Prevention open house event in their local community, to visit with local firefighters, tour the station, and learn more about fire prevention and fire safety messages.

  • Tuesday, October 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Barbeque hosted at the Sexsmith Fire Station
  • Thursday, October 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Refreshments and snacks hosted at the La Glace Fire Station
  • Thursday, October 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Open House at the Wembley Fire Station
  • Friday, October 13 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Barbecue hosted at the Bezanson Fire Station
  • Friday, October 13 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
    • Finger food and appetizers hosted at the Hythe Fire Station
  • Saturday, October 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • Barbecue by the Clairmont Fire Station at the Wellington Resource Centre Parking Lot
  • Sunday, October 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Pancake breakfast hosted at the Teepee Creek Fire Station

Do you live within 20 kilometres of a Fire Hall? Those who are interested in joining the County’s Fire Service can chat with fire personnel to learn more about the training and requirements needed to become a Paid Responder. The County Regional Fire Service is currently recruiting for Paid Responders in Bezanson, Hythe, La Glace, Teepee Creek and at the Sexsmith Fire Department, while Wembley is recruiting for Volunteers.
