County kicks off Fire Prevention Week with a focus on smoke alarm safety at community events

The County of Grande Prairie is celebrating the 2024 Fire Prevention Week™ (FPW™) from October 6-12, with community events planned from Monday, October 7 through Saturday, October 12 at County fire stations and partner departments.

This year’s theme, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!™”, highlights the importance of having working smoke alarms in homes. The goal is to educate residents about testing smoke alarms regularly, ensuring they are installed in key areas of the home, and understanding the life-saving role they play in fire prevention.

The County Regional Fire Service invites the public to join firefighters and County staff at various Fire Prevention Week open house events. Come meet your local firefighters, tour the station, and learn valuable fire prevention tips.
