The County of Grande Prairie has selected Carol Gabriel as the new Director of Corporate Services for the municipality. Gabriel will oversee the Communications, Facilities Management, Information Systems, Legislative Services and Records and Information Management departments.

“We are very pleased to have attracted Carol to the County,” said Joulia Whittleton, CAO. “Carol’s combination of broad industry knowledge, leadership experience and forward-thinking mindset will be a tremendous asset to the organization and the community.”

Gabriel has nearly 30 years’ experience within both the municipal government and school board setting, with the last 20 years supporting municipal councils and boards of trustees in various legislative, corporate and executive roles. Over the past eight years, Gabriel’s experience includes her role as the Director of Legislative and Support Services for Mackenzie County. Most recently, she spent the last year taking on additional duties as the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer.

Along with her leadership and municipal experience, Gabriel holds certification in Municipal Law and Ethics from Dalhousie University. She also has a National Advanced Certificate in Local Government Authority Level I and is nearing completion of Level II certification.

“I am excited for this new and challenging leadership experience and the opportunity to share my passion for municipal government with the progressive team at the County of Grande Prairie,” said Gabriel.  “I look forward to relocating to the County and being part of this dynamic community.”

Gabriel will assume the role of Director of Corporate Services next month, on February 16.
