The County of Grande Prairie has declared a state of local emergency and issued an Alberta Emergency Alert as residents are evacuated north of the Wapiti River.

All residents in the area of Township Road 710 south to the Wapiti River and between Highway 40 and Range Road 73 must evacuate immediately. Evacuate using the nearest Range Road north toward the City of Grande Prairie.

Evacuees are to register at the Bonnetts Energy Centre, 10017 – 99 Avenue, Grande Prairie.

Bring all important documents, medications, food, water and important supplies, to be away from your home for three days.

A three-hectare wildfire is currently burning along the Wapiti River threatening homes in the area.

A provincial fire and off-highway vehicle (OHV) ban is in place for the entire Forest Protection Area of Alberta, including the Grande Prairie Forest Area and County of Grande Prairie. During a ban, all outdoor wood fires are prohibited. Learn more at www.albertafirebans.ca.
