The top three candidates for the Alberta Senate Election, as voted by County of Grande Prairie residents, were Pam Davidson (2,298 votes), Erika Barootes (2,204) and Mykhailo Martyniouk (1,558 votes). Residents voted against adopting year-round daylight savings time with 2,542 votes for “No” compared to 2,294 votes for “Yes”. Residents were in favour of removing section 36(2), equalizations payments, from the constitution with 3,934 votes for “Yes” compared to 885 votes for “No”.

While elections for County Councillor were held in divisions 2, 4, 5, 8 and 9, voters in divisions 1, 3, 6 and 7 still cast their ballots in school board elections and the Provincial Senate and Referendum Votes.

The 2021 election saw 4,895 County residents cast their ballots, 26 per cent of eligible voters. Voter turnout increased two per cent compared to the 2017 municipal election, when just over 3,400 residents voted in seven Council elections while two divisions were acclaimed. The Provincial Senate and Referendum Votes are noted as a factor in this year’s turnout.

A total of 857 voters cast their votes during Advanced Polls, compared to 300 advance votes in 2017.

All Councillors will be officially sworn into Council, and Council will elect the Reeve and Deputy Reeve at the annual organizational meeting at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 25. Council and Committee meetings are available to the public via live stream, linked through the events calendar on the County website.
