County Regional Fire Service reduces damage after early morning fire at sawmill

Just after 3:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, crews from the County Regional Fire Service Bezanson, Clairmont and Dunes stations, along with the Grovedale, Sexsmith and Wembley fire departments, responded to a structure fire at the Weyerhaeuser Sawmill.

Upon arrival, crews found fire coming from a piece of equipment in the saw line that had spread to the ceiling. The sawmill’s sprinkler system held the fire until crews arrived to extinguish the blaze. Damage was contained to the area around the equipment.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the County Fire Marshal.
