The County is currently recruiting paid responders at the County Regional Fire Service stations in Bezanson, Hythe, La Glace and Teepee Creek. The Sexsmith and Wembley Fire Departments are also recruiting new members - Sexsmith is hoping to fill paid responder positions, while Wembley is looking for additional volunteers.

“Paid and volunteer responders are regular people who want to help their communities. They come from all walks of life and are looking to make a difference,” said District Fire Chief Bryan Hall.

“They provide their time to train for and respond to incidents, working alongside firefighters from other stations and jurisdictions,” he said. “They are trained, dedicated and committed to helping people in their time of need.”

Paid responders at the County Regional Fire Service and Sexsmith Fire Department are compensated to train and respond to incidents. The Wembley Fire Department is looking for volunteer firefighters to fill out their ranks. Their volunteers receive professional training as part of the position but are not paid. The training provided is internationally recognized and transferable.

Applicants are required to live close to their local fire station – within a 15 minute drive of County Regional Fire Service and Sexsmith stations and 25 minutes from the Wembley station.

Local youth between the ages of 16 and 18 who are interested in a career in emergency services are invited to apply to the Junior Firefighter program for the opportunity to attend community events and training.

Applications will be accepted until September 13. For a full list of requirements, and to apply, visit Paid Responder recruitment. For more information, contact Regional Fire Service at firerecruitment@countygp.ab.ca or 780-532-9727.
