County Residents to Register to Vote in the 2025 Municipal Election
(County of Grande Prairie, AB) – New in 2025, County residents need to register to vote in the 2025 municipal election being held on October 20.
Following recent changes to Alberta’s Local Authorities Elections Act, the County is required to use a list of registered voters during municipal elections. The voter list is expected to streamline election processes and make for a quick and simple experience at the polls.
“Registering early will make voting easier,” says Carol Gabriel, General Manager, Corporate Services and Strategy, and Returning Officer for the County’s 2025 municipal election. “We are required to use a list of registered voters; anyone who hasn’t registered in advance will have to do so on site before they are allowed to cast a ballot.”
County voters can register online through VoterLink, the same platform used for provincial election voter registration. Since municipalities use the same voter list, this process helps streamline local elections.
“We are encouraging everyone to register,” says Gabriel. “Residents may already be registered from a previous provincial election and should double-check their information is correct or make any updates.”
Registration is available online to all eligible voters at voterlink.ab.ca. Anyone unable to use the online portal can register by calling VoterLink at 780-427-7191 or toll-free to 310-0000 then dial 780-427-7191, or by emailing info@elections.ab.ca.
More information about the 2025 municipal election is available on the County website at www.countygp.ab.ca/election.
