The County of Grande Prairie is inviting the public to attend an open house to learn more and provide input on the Windsor Area Structure Plan (ASP).

The event will take place on Wednesday, May 10 at Whispering Ridge Community School located at 10320 149 Ave. in Clairmont from 5 to 7 p.m.

According to Planning Manager Reed Desroches, work has taken place over several years. Now, feedback is being sought from area residents, businesses, and other interested parties to finalize the proposed concept.

The Windsor ASP will guide future development of about 388 hectares of land from Highway 43 south to the City of Grande Prairie boundary and between Range Roads 62 (108 street) and 63 (116 Street). The area is allocated for mostly residential development like the neighbouring Whispering Ridge subdivision. Commercial development is proposed along the outside of the plan area, with several spots set aside for planned and proposed school sites.

“The plan was developed and refined based on engagement with residents, local developers, and other groups that took place pre-pandemic,” explains Desroches. “Anyone who is interested to learn more about future development guidelines for the area and provide that final input are encouraged to attend.”

The open house marks the end of the second phase of the project. The third and final phase will involve finalizing the plan and presenting it to Council for Public Hearing and final decision.

More information about the Windsor Area Structure Plan is available at www.countygp.ab.ca/WindsorASP.

ASPs provide a framework for the development of lands for commercial, industrial and residential purposes. A priority of the plans is ensuring all development aligns with the goals, objectives and policies of the County. They are prepared in accordance with the Municipal Government Act, Matters Related to Subdivision and Development Regulation, and the County’s Municipal Development Plan.
