Business Incentive Program — The Committee received a presentation from Ernst, Basler and Partner (EBP) on the final draft of recommendations to enhance the County’s Business Incentives Program, part of the 2022 Industrial Investment Attraction Strategy aimed at attracting non-resource extraction investments. The Committee directed Administration to amend the draft and bring it back to a future Committee of the Whole meeting for consideration and discussion.
Maskwa Medical Center Update — The Committee received an update from Ken Drysdale, Chair of the Maskwa Medical Center Board of Directors on the status of the project and the facility construction. The facility design is complete, and the project timeline includes a groundbreaking ceremony and start of construction at the end of the first quarter in 2025. At the July 15, 2024 Council meeting, Council passed the Maskwa Medical Facility Borrowing Bylaw #3231 and Maskwa Medical Facility Lending Bylaw #3232.
Asphalt versus Gravel Roads Report — The Committee received a report from Administration outlining the total life cycle costs for two types of road surfacing as approximately $38,705/km for paved roads versus $12,152/km for gravel roads.
2025 Public Participation Calendar — The Committee received an information report on the timing of planned public participation initiatives for 2025. Projects include the Plan Your County Municipal Development and Land Use Bylaw updates, Citizen Satisfaction Survey, Crime Prevention initiatives, the 2025 Municipal Election, and Wildfire Mitigation Strategy.
2024 County Campgrounds Report — The Committee received the 2024 end-of-season campground report from Administration which highlighted the increase of attendance at Bear Lake, Kleskun, and Pipestone Creek Campgrounds, replacement of the Hommy Park playground, improvements to the Old Bezanson Townsite, and other key performance indicators.
The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on January 13, 2025. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on January 16, 2025.
