Dunes West Wildfire Update #2 - 12:15 a.m. - Fire Response Continues in Dunes West Area
A combined fire response continues to occur within the Dunes West area, as the fire continues to burn.
Fire crews are working through the night with contracted services to establish a fire perimeter to reduce the spread of the wildfire. Crews anticipate overnight weather conditions will assist with fire control.
Crews are also working with Technical Search and Rescue to ensure a secure perimeter of the evacuated area. An evacuation order remains in effect for the area of Township Road 710 south to the Wapiti River and between Highway 40 and Range Road 73. All high risk areas have been evacuated.
At this time, an evacuation alert is NOT in effect for the City of Grande Prairie and crews do not anticipate an expansion of the evacuated area overnight.
The evacuee reception centre remains open overnight for evacuees from the County of Grande Prairie. Anyone displaced due to wildfires may report to Bonnetts Energy Centre located at 10017 99 Avenue Grande Prairie for support and resources.
The call centre is closed for the evening and will be available beginning at 8 a.m. by phone at 1-825-606-5092.
A reminder that fire bans remain in effect for both the County and City of Grande Prairie due to hot and dry weather conditions. There is no open burning permitted and residents must comply with the fire ban.
Should the emergency response remain in a similar situation, the next update is anticipated before 12 noon on May 6, 2023.
