
Dunes West Wildfire Update #3: 11:00 a.m. - Evacuation order expanded, new alert in effect
The evacuation order for the County of Grande Prairie has expanded, and additional properties have been put on alert for possible evacuation due to forecast winds and continued dry conditions.
All residents from Township Road 710 (correction line) south to the Wapiti River and between Range Road 75 and Range Road 73 must evacuate immediately. The evacuation order is now in effect for all residents from Township Road 710 (correction line) south to the Wapiti River and between Highway 40 and Range Road 75.
An evacuation alert is in place for the area of Township Road 710 (correction line) south to the Wapiti River and between Range Road 80 and Range Road 75. This includes Pipestone Creek area, although the campground remains closed for the season.
Anyone displaced due to wildfires may report to Bonnetts Energy Centre located at 10017 99 Avenue Grande Prairie for support and resources. If you need help evacuating, or are seeking information about the Dunes West Wildfire, call 1-825-606-5092. Call 911 for emergencies only.
An evacuation alert is NOT in effect for the City of Grande Prairie.
Firefighters from the County of Grande Prairie, City of Grande Prairie, and Alberta Forestry continue to battle the fire. Crews work through the night and were able to protect all homes in the affected area. Some outbuildings were affected.
A reminder that fire bans and an Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) remain in effect for both the County and City of Grande Prairie due to hot and dry weather conditions. There is no open burning permitted and residents must comply with the fire ban.
