Clairmont Arena and Community Hall – Council accepted for information engineering reports on the Clairmont Arena and Community Hall.

On December 3, 2019, the County of Grande Prairie was notified by the Clairmont & District Agricultural Society that they have had to close their arena until further notice. The Society, which owns and operates the facility, made the decision to close the arena due to potential safety concerns caused by a leaky roof. On December 9, County Council approved funding in the sum of $9,850 to Spa Engineering to complete engineering and environmental studies on the arena, in addition to a study done on the hall in October 2019.

Support for Water North Coalition Lobbying Efforts – Council will support a resolution made by Water North Coalition (WNC) requesting that the Federal and Provincial governments consider and evaluate the financial impacts of laws and regulations for water and wastewater on municipalities, and to share that information. Council will sponsor the resolution, bringing it forward to the Rural Municipalities of Alberta (RMA) Zone 4 meeting on February 21, 2020.

Donation of Equipment to Evergreen Park – Council approved the donation of a picker truck valued at $35,000 to the Grande Prairie Regional Agriculture and Exhibition Society who operate Evergreen Park. The truck has reached the end of its useful life for the County and would otherwise be sent for public auction.

Standing Committee on Recreation and Educational

Services Partnership – Council will request to meet with the Standing Committee on Recreation and Educational Services (SCORES) to discuss an invitation from the Grande Prairie Public School Division to become a partner in the agreement. SCORES is a partnership between the City of Grande Prairie and the governing boards of four local educational organizations to guide the sharing of municipal and educational organization resources, including land available for school sites.

Council will request to meet with representatives from Peace Wapiti School Division to discuss future partnerships.

Public Hearings – Council held a public hearing for Bylaw 2680-20-001 to redesignate 9.39 acres of land located 2 ½ miles northeast of the
Town of Wembley, adjacent to Range Road 81 and Township Road 715A from an Agricultural (AG) District to a Country Residential
(CR-5) District to allow for the subdivision of two residential lots. Council gave the bylaw three readings.

Council held a public hearing for Bylaw 2680-20-002 to redesignate 4.04 acres of land located one mile west of the Hamlet of Dimsdale, adjacent to Range Road 74 and Township Road 712 from an Agricultural (AG) District to a Country Residential (CR-4) District to allow for the subdivision of one residential lot.

Provincial Curling Championships Sponsorship – Council approved sponsorship of $1,000 for the Sexsmith Curling Club as they host the 2020 Curling Alberta Optimist Provincial Championships on February 26 – March 1, 2020.
County Council Hosts Provincial Officials – Council will host a breakfast for members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLAs) when they are in the area for a caucus retreat.

Speech from the Throne Reception – A representative from County Council will attend a Speech from the Throne Reception hosted by lobbying firm Alberta Counsel on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at their offices in Edmonton.

Letter of Congratulations – Council will send a letter of congratulations to Dan Gorman, Executive Director of the Grande Prairie Regional Agricultural & Exhibition Society for the Award of Merit he was presented with at the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies Annual General Meeting this weekend.

Conferences – Council will mark their calendars to consider attending the Canadian Rural and Remote Housing and Homelessness Symposium in Guelph, Ontario on May 27 – 29, 2020.
