Last night at approximately 7:45 p.m. County of Grande Prairie Fire Services responded to a brush fire north of Clairmont. The fire is located north of Township Road 730 between Range Road 53 and 54. The fire is in a rural area and there is currently no risk to the general public. Three homes are being protected by fire crews.

Firefighters from across the County are being supported by crews from Alberta Wildfire and the City of Grande Prairie. Fire crews worked on the fire throughout the night and they will continue to do so today with the assistance of aircraft and heavy equipment. Depending upon conditions it may take several days to fully extinguish the fire. The fire is estimated at 60 hectares and crews are still working on containment.

Traffic had to be diverted during fire operations last night because personal vehicles were impeding firefighting operations. Please stay clear of the area or Township Road 730, Range Roads 53 and 54 may be closed to the public until the fire is extinguished.

With the cooler temperatures overnight, it will keep smoke in the area. This may continue until the fire is extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
