At approximately 6:08 pm on Friday January 1, the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service was dispatched to a structure fire on Highway 674 in the Teepee Creek area. Teepee Creek, Bezanson, Sexsmith, Clairmont, Wembley and Dunes Stations responded to the fire. On arrival heavy fire was present through the roof of the residential dwelling.

The Regional Fire Service remains on scene working on extinguishing hot spots. Motorists are advised to use caution on Highway 674 near Range Road 42, as water is being pumped from tanks on the highway down the driveway to apparatus in the yard.

A firefighting dry standpipe and dug out approximately 2 miles away at Matco Manufacturing provided an invaluable water supply for this fire. 3 Regional Fire Service water tenders were able to continuously shuttle water from this fill point to the fire ensuring there was ample water available to extinguish the fire. This is the second time in less than a year that the dry standpipe fill site at Matco Industries has been used to provide water for a structure fire in the immediate area. “The quick response of several Regional Fire Service Stations and this water source close by enabled firefighters to save many contents of the home from the fire” said Regional Fire Service Deputy Chief Jason Nesbitt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the County Fire Marshal is on scene. No injuries have been reported.
