The Alberta Government has officially approved Hythe’s dissolution.  The County of Grande Prairie received an Order in Council from the Province, approving the Village of Hythe’s dissolution into the County of Grande Prairie.

The order outlines that Hythe will become an official County hamlet as of July 1, 2021.

County Council and Administration continue to work closely with Village Administration to ensure as smooth a transition as possible, in the interests of both communities. The Village office remains the first point of contact for residents and businesses until the dissolution date.

The public is encouraged to learn more on our website at Hythe Transition and subscribe to receive updates.

Background Information

On March 30 and 31, the residents of the Village of Hythe voted to dissolve the municipality and become a hamlet within the County of Grande Prairie. Out of 251 valid ballots, 95 per cent voted in favour of dissolving. The vote followed a viability review conducted by the Province to determine the sustainability of the Village.

The dissolution became formal following the June 9, 2021, Provincial Order in Council.
