Stantec Clairmont Geothermal Report Shows Considerable Energy Availability Within the County – The Committee of the Whole recommended to Council that the County proceed with a geothermal pilot project once a suitable site is identifiedsuccessful application for grant funding has been attained, and a budget has been determinedThe recommendation was based on current findings from a study conducted by Stantec. In their presentation to the Committee of the Whole, representatives from the company shared how an identified considerable geothermal energy opportunity could yield positive economics for various developmentsincluding Clairmont Heights. If applications for provincial and federal support are successful, moving forward with a phased project would first involve trial subsurface drilling and field work prior to the start of any construction. 

Beaverlodge District Rural Crime WatchLightcatch Provide Quarterly Update – Beaverlodge District Rural Crime Watch President Leanne Van Wagner and Darren Boyer of Lightcatch provided a quarterly update on the Lightcatch app pilot projectIn March, Council approved $50,000 to support a one-year crime prevention pilot project using the app. In his report, Mr. Boyer reviewed data collected from the app, and noted that a highway billboardposters and training sessions will bring added awareness of the app to County residentsbusinesses and organizationsAdministration will facilitate discussions between Lightcatch and Grande Prairie RCMP to discuss a potential Memorandum of Understanding. 

Second Quarter Financial Summary Report – Administration presented the County of Grande Prairie’s financials for the second quarter of 2021 to the Committee of the Whole, including year-to-date actual revenues and expenditures compared to approved budgets.  

RBC Dominion Securities Annual Portfolio Presentation – Council accepted as information the County of Grande Prairie Investment Portfolio Report provided by Kevin Chrenek with Chrenek Dion & Associate of RBC Dominion Securities.  

Hamlet Resiliency Strategy Project Charter – The Committee of the Whole will recommend to Council to approve the Hamlet Resiliency Strategy Project Charter as presented. The Strategy’s primary goal is to understand what contributes to a hamlet’s growth or decline, recognizes the role that the stable hamlets play within the region, and ensures their long-term resiliency and sustainability. 

Clairmont Addressing Project – Council accepted a summary report on the public consultation around addressing changes in the Hamlet of Clairmont. The survey was initiated by a Council motion on January 20, 2020. Based on feedback from residents about ongoing addressing issues across the Hamlet, the Committee of the Whole referred the matter to Administration to continue to investigate how the addressing errors could be resolved and then submit the findings to Council for a decision. 

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on August 9, 2021. The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on August 26, 2021.
