County of Grande Prairie residents interested in shaping their local government can submit nominations to run in the upcoming municipal election. 

Municipal elections take place in the County and across the province on October 18, 2021.

The County consists of nine electoral divisions, each represented by a Councillor. On election day, division residents vote for a candidate to represent their division by serving a four-year term on Council.  

To be eligible to run for County of Grande Prairie Council, you must be at least 18 years old on nomination day, a Canadian citizen, and you must have been a resident of the division for at least six consecutive months prior to Nomination Day.

Reeve and Deputy Reeve are elected by Council on an annual basis.

Interested candidates can learn more by downloading the candidate information package at www.countygp.ab.ca/elections. Prospective candidates filing their nominations must schedule an appointment with the Returning Officer.

Nominations for Council are accepted until 12 p.m. on Nomination Day, Monday, September 20, 2021.
