Alberta Disaster Recovery Dunes West Wildfire – Council approved and directed Administration to assist affected landowners with applicable cost remediation under the Alberta Disaster Recovery Program (DRP). Administration received 40 submissions from landowners indicating direct impact to their property due to creation of fire guards.  The DRP does not cover tree replacement, major landscaping. Items that were burnt or damaged by the fire are not covered by DRP as it is an insurable event.

Public Hearings – Council held the following public hearings:

  • Council gave first reading to Bylaw 3208 to close a portion of the service road south of Highway 59 and directed administration to forward the Bylaw to the Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors for approval.
  • Council recessed the Public Hearing for Bylaw 2680-23-031 to the November 27, 2023 Council Meeting to allow the applicant to attend the public hearing.
  • Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2680-23-032 to re-designate 91.70 acres of land located approximately 8 kilometres north of Sexsmith, 3 kilometres west of Highway 2, adjacent to Range Road 55 and Township Road 744 from Country Residential (CR-5) District to the Agricultural (AG) District to accommodate existing agricultural development on the property.
  • Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2680-23-037 to re-designate 10.75 acres of land located approximately 5.6 kilometres east of the Town of Sexsmith and 0.8 kilometres south of Highway 674, adjacent to Range Road 52 from the Agricultural (AG) District to the Country Residential (CR-5) District to accommodate the subdivision of one lot for Country residential use.

Request to License Undeveloped Road Allowance – Council  directed administration to enter into a licensing agreement with the applicant to license a portion of undeveloped road allowance located on Range Road 63, and south of Township Road 704 as surplus.

Capital Grant Meeting Date Change – Council approved the rescheduling of the 2024 Capital Grants review meeting to December 4, 5, and 6, 2023.

2024 Seniors and Accessible Transportation Grants – Council referred the Seniors and Accessible Transportation Grant allocations to interim budget deliberations in December.

Bear Creek Folk Festival – Council heard an update from the Bear Creek Folk Festival Society on the 2023 Festival. Council referred a $25,000 sponsorship request to interim budget deliberations.  

Grande Prairie and District Agricultural & Exhibition Society – Council referred a funding request from the Grande Prairie and District Agricultural & Exhibition Society for the debt repayment of the long-term loans for the original construction of the Tara Centre to interim budget.

Rio Grande Sports Association – Council referred the funding request from the Rio Grande Sports Association in the amount of $20,000 to the 2024 Capital Grants meeting.

Bylaws Approved – Council approved the following bylaws:

  • Bylaw 3211 –Council gave third reading to Bylaw 3211 Family and Community Support Services Advisory Board which included a definition of a Councillor in good standing and clarification regarding members at large participation.
  • Bylaw 3212 –Council gave third reading to Bylaw 3212 Agricultural Service Board with the amendment that includes a definition of a Councillor in good standing.

New Staff Introduction – Council welcomed the following:

  • Jaymee Sluggett as a permanent payroll clerk with the Cash Control team.
  • Jori-Lynn Anderson as a permanent Data Entry Clerk with the Cash Control team.

The next Regular Council Meeting will take place on November 14.  The next Committee of the Whole Meeting will take place on November 30, 2023.
