Ongoing Hythe Water Valve Replacement Project Nearing Completion

The County of Grande Prairie would like to thank residents of the Hamlet of Hythe for their patience with the ongoing planned water outages which are necessary to facilitate the valve replacement project.

The project, which is being funded by a grant that is guaranteed until the end of 2024, was initially planned to be completed mid-October. However, access issues have extended the timeline to mid-December.

“We appreciate residents’ patience as we make the necessary adjustments,” says Dalen Peterson, Director of Municipal Utilities. “Excavation delays due to shallow underground utilities and unmapped waterlines have impacted our ability to gain access and perform the repairs.”

During the rotating outages, water will be shut off from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., unless otherwise indicated. Only properties connected to the Hythe Waterworks system will be affected by the outages and letters are being delivered to those homes.

A temporary water system is in place to limit the disturbance to residents on the system, however low water pressure may be experienced by anyone on the system during the planned outages. Anyone outside the outage area should reduce major water use until after 5:00 p.m. on days when outages occur.

The outages are also subject to change due to the weather.
