
Peavine Creek Wildfire Update #1: Evacuation Alert issued for residences near Preston Lake
The County of Grande Prairie has issued an Evacuation Alert for areas near Preston Lake.
The Peavine Creek wildfire has crossed the British Columbia/Alberta border and is burning 5.5 km west of Preston Lake. Winds are pushing the fire east. The situation is being carefully monitored and if conditions do not improve, an evacuation will be required.
The County of Grande Prairie is closely monitoring the situation and has advised residents located north of TWP RD 732, west of RGE RD 131, and south of TWP RD 742 to be on alert and prepare for the possibility of evacuation.
Regional Fire Service is deploying structural protection units in select areas.
Reminder in preparing for a potential evacuation order:
- Arrange accommodations.
- Pack all important documents, medications, food, water and important supplies, to be away from your home for seven days.
- Have a plan for your pets.
- Plan for transportation and make sure your vehicles are full of gas.
