We host year-round programs and events that focus on outdoor recreation and the environment. We want to help you be healthy, happy, and connected with nature.
We offer:
- Recreation Fee Assistance to ensure all residents have access to recreation opportunities.
- Recreation and Culture grants to help community organizations.
- Programs for families, youth, and adults.

April 19, 2025 - AdventureSmart: Hug a Tree & Survive Workshop
Calling all kids ages 5 to 11! Join us for an exciting Outdoor Safety Workshop with experts from Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue.
11:00 a.m. - noon at the Bezanson Community Event Centre - Memorial Hall
In this program your child will learn how not to become lost in the woods, what to do should they become lost in the woods, and other core principles needed to safely enjoy the outdoors.
Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s) are asked to stay for the duration of the program.

May 10, 2025 - Girls at Bat
Join us Saturday, May 10, 2025, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (Registration beings 8:40 a.m.) at the Bezanson Community Event Centre ball diamond
Girls At Bat is an introductory level baseball/fastball program designed to reduce some of the biggest barriers girls may face when accessing or participating in sport (as defined by the Jays Care Foundation). This program is designed for girls between the ages of 6 and 18 years and will be offered at no cost to participants. The Bezanson camp will be held outdoors at the Bezanson Community Event Centre ball diamond.
The County is working with Grande Prairie Pirates Minor Fastball and is supported by the Bezanson Agricultural Society.

May 13, 2025 - BearSmart
Join us Saturday, May 13, 2025, 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Philip J Currie Museum for an informative program to learn about visiting, living and working in bear territory.
With BearSmart, you'll learn how to:
- make safe decisions when in bear territory;
- prevent bear encounters;
- respond appropriately in bear encounters;
- reduce property damage cause by bears.

May 31, 2025 - AdventureSmart: Survive Outside Workshop
Attention teens ages 12 to 17! Join us for an exciting Outdoor Safety Workshop with experts from Grande Prairie Technical Search and Rescue.
11:00 a.m. - noon at the Philip J Currie Museum - Akroyd Theatre
Participants will learn about the value of planning a trip, the essentials, and how the Search and rescue system works.

June 7, 2025 - Old Bezanson Townsite Grand Reopening
- Barbeque - grab some delicious food and connect with others.
- Scavenger Hunt & Geocaching - put your adventure skills to the test!
- Sign Unveiling - Be there for the big reveal of our last historical interpretive sign.
- Archaeology Presentation - Special guests from Northwestern Polytechnic will be there to share archaeological discoveries from the townsite.
