Municipal Development Plan

The Municipal Development Plan (MDP) provides policy direction for growth and development throughout the County.
The MDP is a community’s long-term guide. It serves as the framework for land uses, expansion, and future development areas in hamlets and across the County. It ensures sustainable growth that meets the needs of our community for the next 50 years.
The MDP guides the policy direction for other planning documents such as the Land Use Bylaw (LUB) and Area Structure Plans (ASP). It also helps determine how development proposals are evaluated.
All Municipalities are required to develop an MDP under the Municipal Government Act of Alberta. The plan must address future land uses within the municipality and be consistent with any Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) in the same areas.
