Curbside Collection Guide

Learn how to bag and place garbage and recycling for curbside collection.

Prepare garbage, recycling and yard waste

Follow these steps to help make sure your materials are collected:

  • Place all household garbage in bags before putting it in your garbage bin. Loose garbage may not be collected.
  • Place all recycling in clear blue bags.
  • Place yard waste like grass clippings, leaves, and plant trimmings in a clear or blue bag.
    • Yard waste bags must weigh less than 22 kg (48.5 lbs).
    • Branches are accepted if they are securely bundled, less than one metre long and weigh less than 22 kg (48.5 lbs).

Place materials curbside

Place your garbage bin and recycling or yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. on your collection day.

  • Place your bin with the wheels against the curb and the handles facing your home.
  • Make sure all garbage fits inside your bin with the lid fully closed.
  • Leave at least one metre (3 feet) of space around your bin. Keep it away from:
    • Parked vehicles
    • Fences
    • Trees
    • Other bins
    • Any other objects that may block collection
  • Place recycling and yard waste bags or bundled branches at least one metre (3 feet) away from your garbage bin or other objects.
