We host year-round programs and events that focus on outdoor recreation and the environment. We want to help you be healthy, happy, and connected with nature.
We offer:
- Recreation Fee Assistance to ensure all residents have access to recreation opportunities.
- Recreation and Culture grants to help community organizations.
- Programs for families, youth, and adults.
Programs and Events
Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course
Date: August 24-26, 2026
Time: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Monday and Tuesday) | Testing on Wednesday (participants may finish between 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.)
Location: County of Grande Prairie Community Services Building, Clairmont
Cost: $85 + GST
Ages: 12-17
The County of Grande Prairie is hosting the Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course, delivered by certified instructors from GP Firearm Safety.
This Provincial certification course is required for first-time hunters in Alberta and provides youth with the knowledge and skills needed to hunt safely, ethically, and responsibly. Topics include wildlife management, wildlife identification, firearms safety, hunting ethics, field techniques, survival, first aid, and legal responsibilities.
Funding support from the Alberta Conservation Association helps reduce program costs and increase access to hunter education opportunities for local youth.
Participants who successfully complete the course will be eligible to apply for a Wildlife Identification Number (WIN) Card, a requirement for hunting in Alberta.
