Bi-Annual Seniors’ Tea Returns to Evergreen Park This June

Local seniors are invited to an afternoon of tea, conversation, and community connection at the Bi-Annual Seniors’ Tea.

The free event takes place on Wednesday, June 3 from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Evergreen Park, and is held in recognition of Seniors’ Week. The tea is hosted by the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) teams from the County of Grande Prairie, City of Grande Prairie, and the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley.

“Our seniors built strong roots in our community and continue to help guide the direction of our region,” says County of Grande Prairie Reeve Amanda McDonald. “This event is our way of thanking them and celebrating their wisdom, generosity, leadership, and impact.”

Seniors from the County, City, and surrounding communities can expect a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying light refreshments, snacks, musical entertainment, and door prize draws. Those planning to attend are asked to register by May 25 by contacting the County of Grande Prairie FCSS at 780-532-9727 ext. 2400 or emailing fcssreg@countyofgp.com.

“Building community connections for seniors is a key part of how we can build community empowerment and livability for all our residents,” says City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton. “The Seniors’ Tea event and the work of our FCSS teams across the region do year-round are key ways we work together to bring those connections to life.”

Beaverlodge Mayor Gary Rycroft notes the role events like this play in strengthening community ties. “Bringing seniors together helps build relationships and reminds them how much they are appreciated,” he says. “It is a pleasure to be part of an event that recognizes their impact.”

Sexsmith Mayor Kate Potter appreciates the connections built at these events. “The Seniors' Tea allows us to strengthen our ties to those who have made our communities what they are today,” she explains. “It's a time to honour their past and inspire their future.”

Wembley Mayor Kelly Peterson emphasizes the lasting impact of seniors. “Seniors possess invaluable life experiences and historical perspectives that offer lessons in resilience, empathy, and overcoming challenges. Our seniors are the caretakers to our collective past. They should be honoured at every opportunity.”
